Moroccanoil Color Depositing Masks : temporary hair colour for the year-end festivities

The Color Depositing Masks are unlike anything Moroccanoil has launched before. These dual-benefit masks give you beautiful, temporary color, plus all the nourishing benefits of a deep conditioning treatment. Ideal to push you hair colour temporarily for the end of the year without damaging it.

It’s no secret that Moroccanoil is the favourite hair care brand of Taylor Swift, but ours (top three!) as well and now they introduce some revolutionary hair color treatment which you easily can apply at home as well.

“The Color Depositing Masks come in seven shades – ranging from the tropical pink Hibiscus to the rich, velvety Cocoa – there’s something for just about everyone”, tells Franck Perez, Global Educator Moroccanoil & Iconic Hair Stylist at the Fashion Weeks. “You can go for a make-over and play with fun fashion shades like Aquamarine, Hibiscus, Rose Gold, and Platinum or play it safe and enhance your existing color with, say, golden-hued Champagne or crimson-brown Bordeaux. You can also apply as needed to maintain your salon color between visits.”

Before, no filter.

We love our hair colour as it is and do not want to have it coloured but then how would we be able to make a good test review? Moreover the Moroccanoil team can be very convincing so we decide to go for the golden-hued Champagne as it will not change my hair colour that much but add a certain warmth to my hair. If you are looking for a tiny pop of color that looks a bit glossy and gives just a hue of pink, you can put the rose gold on for 2-3 minutes. Very light and subtle but also visible enough for people to notice. The best part: it washes out in about two washes!

Ceresapplies the mask on wet hair and combs our hair through. Four minutes are enough to give our hair the light warm shade that we want. It is at first sight more red than we expected but Ceres ensures us everything will be fine.

How it works and how long will this color last?
Color Depositing Masks add temporary color that fades out over time. How long your color lasts depends on several factors (starting shade, frequence of washing and your hair’s porosity). Which mask you choose also affects longevity. Hibiscus and Aquamarine are the most vibrant colors and may last longer than other shades. Generally speaking, people with lighter or more porous hair will experience a brighter and longer-lasting result. That means that if you have dirty blonde hair that you’ve never colored, your best friend is a platinum blonde. If you both try Hibiscus, your friend’s hair will likely be to be a lot pinker for a lot longer than yours will be.

When will the colour not be even ?
Because some parts of your hair may be more porous than others, the shade and intensity of the color may vary. Assume the color will be more vibrant, vivid and longer-lasting on lighter strands of hair – or parts of your hair that have been previously colored. That means if you have highlights, ombre, or balayage, you can expect the color to show up most vividly on whichever strands have been pre-lightened.

How to choose your colour?
Just pay attention when you choose your colour and let your hairdresser advise you! If you have porous or coloured hair the outcome will be different than if you have natural hair. And also the time you leave the mask on, counts. If you leave the mask on longer, the color will be more intense!

The good thing about it is that you can play around with the amount of time you leave it in to achieve different color effects. The Color Depositing Masks add a light temporary color that’s only deposited on the outermost layer of the hair. With regular washing, the color will eventually fade out over time. To hit reset and speed up the color washout process, you can visit a Moroccanoil salon.

Do the masks cover grey?No they don’t! Color Depositing Masks only deposit color on the surface of the hair. They don’t do anything to change the underlying color. That also explains why some shades only work on blonde hair. Applying certain shades to dark hair is somewhat like using a colored marker on black paper; it won’t show up unless you lighten the surface to which you’re applying the color.

This colour does not damage but nourishes your hair!
The Color Depositing Masks are intensely nourishing treatments, and do not contain ammonia, peroxide, or bleach. They also contain a star-studded roster of ingredients, including the Morrocanoil exclusive ArganID™ technology, which infuses argan oil deep into hair’s cortex and helps seal the cuticle. They also feature an amino acid blend to nourish, detangle, and boost shine, plus Apricot Kernel Oil to help soften hair and improve hydration with oleic acid, linoleic acid, and Vitamin E.

All’s well that ends well

Will these masks stain?
The masks won’t stain your shower or tub. Minimal, temporary staining may occur on your hands but it can easily be washed off with soap and water. But if you want to be extra careful (or have a brand-new manicure, for instance), you can also wear gloves while applying the mask for extra protection against staining.

  1. Did the color really wash out? I used to cocoa and it’s not coming out. I now have this very odd looking muddy orange color (looks horrible). I’m worried that it won’t truly fade out.

    1. Hello Mia, it should come off without any problem. I have an idea what to suggest you but I will check with Moroccanoil first whether that is a good approach. I will come back to you hopefully today!

    2. Reply from the specialist: If you put the cocoa on blond hair it might be so that it is not really beautiful anymore after a few washes ? this could be the result of your hair being fragile Cocoa is made for dark hair types.
The good news is that it certainly washes out completely, it just needs a little more time. A solution could be:
Allow a good cleansing shampoo to take more effect by wrapping your head “with plastic foil after applying and adding a little heat”, if necessary, use the gentle blow function of your hairdryer. Then rinse well and the pigments will be released faster. Hope this works for you !
