La Brasserie du Lac in Genval : Your Ultimate Lakeside Dining Destination in Belgium

Nestled along the serene shores of Lake Genval (Brabant Wallon), La Brasserie du Lac has been a must-visit since 2010, captivating those who seek exquisite dining with a view. Open 7 days a week, this gem in the heart of one of Belgium’s most picturesque settings is the perfect place to treat yourself to a meal with a view.

With 13 years of serving top-tier Franco-Belgian brasserie cuisine, La Brasserie du Lac has become one of the most beloved spots in Brabant Wallon. The reasons for its enduring success are clear: a stunning location, high-quality seasonal ingredients, a stylish yet cozy atmosphere, and of course, tables that offer breathtaking views of the lake. Whether you’re enjoying a meal on the sunny terrace or inside the modern, light-filled space, every visit feels like a mini getaway. Even amidst the hustle and bustle of the busiest summer evenings, with a packed terrace and waiters rushing back and forth, the view of the lake and passing waterfowl manage to envelop you in a sense of serenity, as we experienced firsthand.

A highlight for weekday visitors is the Business Lunch, served from Monday to Friday. Uniquely, it offers the option to start with a selection of oysters from the raw bar- a rare treat for a business lunch! Priced at just €35 for three courses or €29 for two, it’s a fantastic way to sample the brasserie’s best.

Chef Michel Grenier and his long-time partner Thierry Van Damme ensure that every dish is crafted with care, using only the freshest local ingredients. From the iconic house-made shrimp croquettes to seasonal seafood sourced from the best regions, every bite at La Brasserie du Lac is a testament to quality and authenticity.

The iconic house-made grey shrimp croquettes with – and this is becoming increasingly rare – a generous amount of grey shrimp in the filling.
Wild cod fillet on a bed of leeks, with mousseline sauce and potatoes. We loved the combination of soft boiled leeks and baked ones.

The extensive menu includes classic brasserie dishes with a creative twist, such as the cod with leek and mousseline sauce, or the flame-grilled salmon with fresh vegetables. Meat lovers will appreciate options like the farm-raised roast chicken or the Charolais beef onglet with shallots. Vegetarians and kids are also well-catered for, with delicious options that ensure everyone leaves satisfied. But the real star is the seafood, particularly the raw bar, which offers one of the region’s most impressive selections. From oysters sourced from Brittany and Zeeland to lobsters prepared six different ways, the offerings are as varied as they are fresh. Paired with the lakeside setting, it’s no wonder diners feel like they’re on vacation year-round. For those with a sweet tooth, the house-made waffles, ice creams, and crêpes are perfect for an afternoon treat, whether enjoyed inside or on the terrace.

We opted for the Sole meunière with mashed potatoes and asked to put the butter separately on the plate. The sole tasted delicious, perfectly cooked, and with plenty of meat.
île flottante with red fruit and mint. A great choice all year around.
Dame blanche. An all time classic with a good classic taste!
