Luxury Parisian fragrance house Ex Nihilo is renowned for its avant-garde approach to perfumery. Established in 2013, the brand blends traditional craftsmanship with innovative, state-of-the-art techniques to create bespoke fragrances through its Personalization Program. We tried it out.

The word ‘osmologue’ is derived from the ancient Greek science of Osmology, the science of scents. This technology is exclusive to Ex Nihilo and allows the most accurate weighing and blending of the different ingredients contained in a fragrance. For the very first time, you as a customer will have access to the workshops of creation through an interactive ritual.

High Technology is a tool to get the best result possible and Ex Nihilo defends a “Techno Crafting” philosophy: all the creations are weighed, filtered, bottled and perfected by hand, by one of our experts.The creation will come with a numbered, stamped and signed certificate of authenticity.
How does the Personalization Program of Ex Nihilo work?
The perfumes from the Initiale and Babylone collections can be personalized with ingredients such as the absolutes of Iris Pallida, Vanilla Bourbon or Rose Centifolia
First, you choose your favorite concentrate that you want to blend with your favorite Ex Nihilo perfume
The right amounts of liquid are selected
An agitator is put into the liquids
The liquids get mixed
Water, alcohol, the raw material and the concentrate
It’s really a unique concept in Paris but also in the rest of the world
Finally, you select an exclusive cap for your personalized bottle.

Your very own signature
With the precious expertise of its perfumers, Ex Nihilo offers olfactory combinations enhancing the original scent. The raw materials have been chosen for their olfactory identity, their premium quality and their ability to marry in perfect harmony with the original creations.
Made solely on demand, the Signature fragrances allow you to enjoy a scent that matches and reveals your true personality. You can recognize a Signature fragrance by its personalized bottle cap. A collection of collectible engraved caps made of refined materials such as Mother of Pearl, Onyx and Buffalo Horn are available to turn your glass bottle into a precious object. On demand, the glass can also be personalized with laser engraving of a name, initials, a date, or a simple secret word.
Christophe Pillet designed the n°001 machine which you see below. This jewel of technology made of polished metal and glass. It is installed in the Ex Nihilo boutique in Paris, while the Osmologue compact version is available from a group of very selective international locations.
