The Volvo EX60, the electric successor to the XC60, is not only the most intelligent and technologically advanced car from the brand to date; it also elevates safety to unprecedented heights.
Safety has always been paramount at Volvo. In 1959, Volvo engineer Nils Bohlin invented the three-point seatbelt, one of the most important safety innovations in automotive history. Volvo chose not to patent the invention, allowing other car brands to benefit from it.
Advanced Safety Features
With the new Volvo EX60, Volvo takes another step forward in its safety tradition. The electric mid-size SUV features, alongside various other safety provisions, the world’s first multi-adaptive seatbelt. This belt adjusts its tension in a fraction of a second based on your height, weight, posture, and the situation, thanks to sensors inside and around the car. The system also analyzes crash direction and speed to provide better protection than traditional belts.
Software-Defined Safety
The Volvo EX60 also gets smarter over time thanks to software-defined safety. This means safety systems are improved via updates, and new scenarios are better recognized as Volvo collects more data. For example, the Volvo EX60 will calculate whether it’s safer to stop for a pedestrian or swerve around them in an arc. This represents a fundamental shift in how cars detect and respond to dangerous situations.

Swedish Fashion
The Volvo EX60 is not just about technology—esthetics play a leading role as well. Volvo’s Senior Colour & Material Design Manager, Sara Erichsen Susnjar, has spent the past six years developing the interior concept: “During the pandemic, we often ventured into the wooded hills behind our design studio. We collected stones, moss, and mushrooms. Those textures and colors became the foundation for Charcoal—a deep, anthracite-like shade that gives the interior of the Volvo EX60 a restrained, timeless character. If you look closely, you’ll notice that one of the three materials in Charcoal features a pattern reminiscent of black stones.”

The three other Scandinavian-inspired interior concepts also evoke a sense of calm and nature, perfectly aligned with the car’s minimalist design. Cardamom is a soft green-beige tone that creates a natural, fresh atmosphere, while Dawn is a warm, light neutral shade. Both are available in three finishes: Nordico (Volvo’s sustainable, leather-free material made from recycled PET bottles, pine resin from Scandinavian forests, and cork), ventilated Nordico, and nappa leather. “Then there is Rye, a warm natural tone executed in a tailored wool blend that creates a soft, cozy, and organic ambiance. Rye is something of an outlier in the range,” Sara explains. “I drew inspiration from the unexpected color combinations of Acne Studios—the way the Stockholm-based label pairs trousers with tops in contrasting colors. I wanted to create something non-automotive, and I found their combinations incredibly inspiring. It was a bold idea, and we weren’t sure how management would respond, but in the end, we got the green light.”

Performance and Pricing
The all-wheel-drive top version of the Volvo EX60, the P12 AWD electric, can travel up to 810 kilometers on a single charge. This surpasses even recently unveiled rivals like the BMW iX3 and the electric Mercedes-Benz GLC. Starting from 62,990 euros onwards for the P6 Plus edition (Belgian prizes).
