Courier is the result of a unique collaboration between Vitra and Ronan Bouroullec, blending artistic sensibility with refined industrial design. With its clean lines and thoughtful materials, the desk reflects both creative intuition and technical precision.
In addition to being an industrial designer, Ronan Bouroullec is also an artist, known for creating intricate drawings in which he intuitively repeats sequences of lines by hand using a Japanese felt-tip pen. The contours of the new Courier desk, developed by Vitra in collaboration with Ronan, can be seen as an expression of his artistic inspiration.
A Refined Balance of Materials
Yet Courier is also a testament to Ronan Bouroullec’s sense of form and composition, as well as his technical expertise: the desk effortlessly combines two premium materials—wood and aluminum—to create a unique yet understated whole.
“I stripped everything down until I reached something I like to call a ‘naked solution’—just a thin wooden surface on legs. Courier offers enough space for a laptop, some papers, and a screen or books”, Ronan Bouroullec.

In the Company of Icons
Courier thus fits seamlessly alongside George Nelson’s Home Desk, Jean Prouvé’s Compas Direction, and the EDU by Charles and Ray Eames, placing it within a renowned collection of aesthetically appealing objects that are as much sculpture as they are desk. When viewed from the side, the desk’s silhouette evokes the shape of a serif typeface—hence the name Courier, one of the most iconic serif fonts.
