Tiffany & Co. celebrates its long tradition of exceptional gemstones with the acquisition of a 7,500-carat kunzite for the exclusive Bird on a Rock 60th Anniversary capsule collection.
Tiffany & Co. announces the acquisition of an extraordinary kunzite, weighing over 7,500 carats. The rough kunzite will be cut into ten bespoke gemstones by Tiffany’s master craftsmen, with each piece featured in an exclusive collection of Bird on a Rock brooches. These unique, custom-cut creations celebrate the 60th anniversary of Jean Schlumberger’s iconic bird motif, introduced by Tiffany & Co. in 1965. Discovered over 25 years ago in Mozambique, Africa, the 7,500-carat rough kunzite stands out due to its exceptional size, clarity, and remarkable color, making it a rare gemstone. Kunzite, with its rich violet and deep lilac hues, plays a key role in Tiffany’s heritage of extraordinary gemstones. The gemstone is named after Dr. George Frederick Kunz, Tiffany & Co.’s legendary first gemologist. As a self-taught mineralogist and authority on colored gemstones, Dr. Kunz helped establish Tiffany & Co. as the reference for the rarest and most exceptional jewelry.

Iconic Design
Bird on a Rock, designed by Jean Schlumberger in 1965, is one of the House’s most iconic jewels. Inspired by a cockatoo, the brooch reflects Schlumberger’s fascination with nature and movement. Each piece is hand-set by Tiffany artisans, who carefully select the finest gemstones. This refined craftsmanship keeps the heritage of elegance and innovation alive. To mark the 60th anniversary of the iconic Bird on a Rock brooch, Tiffany & Co. will create ten bespoke high jewelry brooches, each featuring these extraordinary kunzites. Each piece will have a unique cut and varying carat weight, set in the signature Bird on a Rock brooch.
