After a study conducted by the Bordet Institute in January 2021 revealed that out of 600 patients suffering from alopecia due to cancer or a serious illness, 200 of them were seeking an alternative to traditional head coverings such as wigs or scarves, milliner and royal warrant holder Fabienne Delvigne introduced the ‘Caring Hat.’
The non-profit organization Caring Hat Fund was a pioneer in advocating for the modification of all necessary legal texts to enable reimbursement by health insurance.
“The Caring Hat, designed for daily use, comes in a variety of styles made from soft and natural materials and is specifically crafted to fully cover the scalp,” says Delvigne. “If needed, it can be adjusted. The price of the hat is comparable to that of a synthetic wig, ranging between 250 and 700 euros. But there is good news: since the beginning of June, health insurance reimburses 120 euros of that cost. One of the missions of the Caring Hat Fund is also to raise money to offer the hat at an affordable price for people who are vulnerable both financially and due to illness.”
The Caring Hat is a specific model, but everyone is free to choose a hat that suits their personal taste.
