Step into the whimsical world of René Magritte at Hotel Amigo’s Bar Magritte, where afternoon tea takes a surrealist twist with edible chess pieces and delightful creations by award-winning pastry chef Marc Ducobu, all set to vibrant decor, live jazz, and avant-garde cocktails.
Hotel Amigo, a Rocco Forte Hotel near Brussels’ iconic Grand-Place, introduces Le Joueur Gourmand, a unique culinary experience at Bar Magritte. Drawing inspiration from René Magritte’s whimsical take on the ordinary, this offering reimagines the beloved British tradition of afternoon tea with a touch of Belgian surrealism.
You can relax in the bar’s plush peach and green velvet booths while enjoying a surreal spread of edible chess pieces, masterfully crafted by Marc Ducobu, one of Belgium’s most renowned pastry chefs.
Each afternoon from 2 to 5 pm, you can indulge in an array of miniature sweet and savoury delights (real bliss for your taste buds) created by Marc Ducobu, a multi-award-winning Belgian chocolatier and pastry innovator. These bite-sized creations are served on a chessboard at Bar Magritte, which was recently named one of Time Magazine’s World’s Greatest Places 2024.
The presentation reflects Brussels’ deep connection to surrealism, celebrated this year with the 100 Years of Surrealism events throughout the city.
Accompanying the treats is a selection of vegetables with dippings and hot beverages from Bar Magritte’s tea library or a choice of surrealist cocktails, envisioned by legendary mixologist Salvatore Calabrese and theatrically prepared by the expert bar team at the venue’s striking copper bar.
Bar Magritte’s vibrant furnishings, adorned with Magritte-inspired prints, perfectly complement the live jazz music played year-round on its grand piano. Known for its quirky interiors, inventive cocktails, and sensory experiences, the bar is a tribute to its surrealist namesake. Just a short stroll from the hotel, you can explore the world’s largest collection of René Magritte’s works at the Magritte Museum on Place Royale.
