Venezuelan artist Sol Calero has partnered with illycaffè to create the latest edition of the illy Art Collection.
A Fusion of Color, Culture, and Coffee
Born in Caracas and currently based in Berlin, Sol Calero is known for her vibrant installations that explore themes of identity, migration, and cultural representation. Through her use of bold colors, tropical motifs, and layered materials like textiles, mosaics, and furniture, Calero transforms everyday spaces—beauty salons, travel agencies, salsa studios—into immersive environments that blur the line between art and life.
With a practice grounded in storytelling and visual language, Calero’s work challenges aesthetic hierarchies and redefines the perception of the exotic. Her signature style brings together elements of folk architecture, painting, and participatory art, inviting viewers to slow down, reflect, and connect across cultures.
Art Meets Everyday Life – Through Coffee
This philosophy aligns perfectly with the vision of the illy Art Collection—a project launched in 1991 that turns the iconic illy espresso cup, designed by Matteo Thun, into a canvas for the world’s most inspiring contemporary artists. Over 135 renowned names have collaborated with illycaffè to date, transforming coffee rituals into moments of global cultural reflection.
In this 2025 edition, Sol Calero infuses the cups with her Latin American heritage, incorporating floral designs, geometric patterns, and vivid colors that evoke warmth, hospitality, and contemplation. Each cup becomes a miniature artwork—an invitation to pause, appreciate, and connect.
