RR Interieur Unveils Ex Terra: A New Space for Design, Art, and Experience in Knokke

This 26th of September, RR Interieur opens the doors of Ex Terra in Knokke – a hybrid venue that blurs the boundaries between design presentation, exhibitions, and cultural gathering venue. Positioned at the intersection of high-end interiors, contemporary art, and community, Ex Terra sets a new benchmark in furniture retail. At its heart lies a by-appointment interior studio led by Grain Designoffice, dedicated to innovative, holistic projects.
Ex Terra operates most of the year as a high-end design store for exceptional outdoor concepts. For roughly a third of the year, it transforms into a temporary exhibition platform, hosting shows that bridge design and art.

More Than a Store

This studio, led by Grain Designoffice, focuses on innovative total projects. To highlight the hybrid character of the location, Ex Terra opens with an exhibition by the internationally renowned duo Draga & Aurel, who will present exclusive artworks there. The Italian artist and designer duo Draga & Aurel, has occupied a unique position at the crossroads of design, art, and craftsmanship since 2007. With backgrounds in fashion, painting, and applied arts, they create limited-edition collectables and installations. Their work is characterized by tactile layering, the use of upcycled materials, and an intuitive approach to color, light, and transparency. The exhibition in Knokke will feature 16 unique objects and paintings, created especially for this Belgian premiere.

To underline the venue’s hybrid spirit, the opening program features an exclusive exhibition by the internationally acclaimed duo Draga & Aurel, who will present a series of new artworks developed specifically for Knokke.

Ex Terra is conceived as a multilayered meeting place for an international, like-minded community. For most of the year, the space functions as a high-end design store for exceptional outdoor concepts, while about a third of the year it is transformed into an exhibition platform for temporary shows. In addition, Ex Terra serves as a hub for special collaborations with leading design brands such as Flexform, Minotti, Baxter, and many others. The name itself, Ex Terra, reflects this hybrid vision: a dynamic movement from inside to outside, from object to context, from art to applied art.

The space itself, an impressive new landmark on the Natiënlaan in Knokke, was designed by Belgian Grain Designoffice, with a strong nod to the style of Brazilian architect Jorge Zalszupin. The sculptural wooden structures, vertical rhythm, and use of glass create a harmonious tension between transparency and tactility. Inside, the atmosphere exudes contemporary quiet luxury: an open entrance hall with natural light, sleek staircases in concrete and wood, sculptural plant arrangements, wooden wall structures, and indirect lighting. Ex Terra also houses a luxurious kitchen and meeting space with views of the surroundings. A large-scale space with grand ambitions, shared by a select group of design enterprises. Ex Terra does not aim to be a point of sale, but a destination.
A place where slowness, sensory experience, and design reinforce each other.

“Our clients don’t just want to buy furniture. Ex Terra is a customer journey where people are moved and actively engaged — a reality that becomes tangible,” says Rik Ruebens, co-founder and head of RR Interieur.
