Piaget unveils a new chapter for its legendary Andy Warhol watch with the Clou de Paris edition. Celebrating its rich history and connection with the iconic artist, this watch merges vintage elegance with modern artistry. Featuring a unique blue meteorite dial and customizable options, it stands as a testament to Piaget’s legacy of craftsmanship and innovation.
Piaget has introduced a new chapter for its renowned Andy Warhol watch with the debut of the Clou de Paris edition, showcasing a fresh design interpretation. This timepiece is distinguished by a captivating Clou de Paris pattern on the case and a striking blue meteorite dial, redefining a collector’s favorite with a contemporary identity.
Originally created in 1972 and produced for less than a decade before its revival in 2014, this elegant watch has become synonymous with Andy Warhol (1928-1987), the artist and cultural icon. A close friend of the Maison and an integral member of the Piaget Society, Warhol owned no fewer than seven Piaget watches. Among these, the most iconic was the Beta21 movement model, previously known as the Black Tie watch. Its bold, 45mm-diameter cushion-shaped case, accented with signature gadroons, established it as a collector’s piece cherished by watch enthusiasts globally.
In partnership with The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Piaget has officially renamed this distinguished timepiece the Andy Warhol watch. To mark this collaboration, the newly launched Andy Warhol Clou de Paris watch boasts a meticulously hand-finished Clou de Paris motif on its white gold case, a process perfected over 10 months by Piaget’s Ateliers de l’Extraordinaire. The challenge lay in adapting this intricate guilloché technique to a curved, rather than flat, surface while preserving the intricate play of light and depth that recalls the original gadroons.
Remaining an Icon
Complementing the case is a one-of-a-kind blue meteorite dial, reflecting Piaget’s tradition of incorporating rare and ornamental stones. This dial adds an exclusive touch, embodying the Maison’s pursuit of exceptional design. Dauphine-style hands and refined indexes provide a vintage detail that enhances the watch’s unique character.
With its Clou de Paris decoration and bold vintage flair, powered by the in-house 501P1 self-winding movement, the new Andy Warhol Clou de Paris watch seamlessly integrates into the collection. This latest iteration joins an exclusive lineup that includes 2023’s High Jewellery Metaphoria piece with emerald accents and a petrified wood dial, rose gold models with malachite and black dials, and bespoke pieces showcased in Piaget’s 2023 Watches and Wonders exhibition.
Piaget and Andy Warhol
Andy Warhol’s connection with Piaget began in 1973 when he acquired the Piaget Black Tie watch, adding it to his six other Piaget timepieces, four of which remain part of the Maison’s private collection. His friendship with Yves Piaget, starting in 1979 in New York, strengthened through shared appearances at glamorous events and renowned venues such as Studio 54. Warhol even featured Yves Piaget in Interview magazine, further cementing their bond. This legacy of friendship and shared artistic spirit is celebrated in the new collection.
Rare specimens
The Andy Warhol watch has become a symbol of luxury and an important collector’s item, gaining fame over the years for its unique style and historical significance. To honor this legacy, Piaget has enhanced its Made to Order service, allowing clients to personalize their Andy Warhol watch. Options include up to 10 different ornamental stone dials, such as the eye-catching falcon eye, and the choice of leather strap colors, dauphine-style or baton hands, and white or rose gold cases. This bespoke approach, part of Piaget’s Infinitely Personal concept, invites collectors to craft a piece as unique as Warhol himself, marking a new chapter in the timepiece’s history.
