Mercedes-AMG and American art collective Mschf have joined forces to create a bold and unexpected design collaboration. Presented during the NYCxDesign Festival 2025, the project transforms original AMG car parts into radical, limited-edition furniture and lifestyle pieces. Blending automotive engineering with conceptual art, the collection challenges traditional boundaries between design, function, and performance.
Mercedes-AMG is unveiling a new collaboration with Mschf during the NYCxDesign Festival, held from May 15 to 17, 2025. The American art collective is known for its unusual and eye-catching creations across a wide range of disciplines, including fashion, culture, live performance, electronics, and apps. Their “Big Red Boots” became a viral sensation and sold out rapidly. This partnership marks a new milestone, featuring sculptural and experimental design objects that transform original AMG car parts into components of exclusive furniture pieces.
Artistic philosophy
The project reflects Mschf’s distinctive tradition of radical design, using the readymade approach in which everyday objects are reimagined as artworks. Carefully engineered AMG performance components are merged with Mschf’s creative vision.
Concept tribute
The concept collection, titled “Not for automotive use,” pays tribute to the Italian radical design counterculture of the 1960s. In line with that movement, Mschf experiments with shape and material to reinterpret the performance models of Mercedes-AMG and transform them into everyday objects such as a standing lamp or an ergonomic chair. The design process honors Milanese designer Achille Castiglioni, who elevated utilitarian reuse by incorporating tractor and bicycle seats into his furniture pieces.

Limited production
These highly exclusive furniture designs featuring AMG vehicle components are intended as conceptual explorations. They are custom-made in extremely limited numbers. Original AMG components are creatively integrated into the designs, such as a seatbelt buckle functioning as a switch for a floor lamp. Designers also drew on iconic AMG design elements including the grille, the silhouette of the AMG GT, the AMG performance seat, and a cross-spoke forged AMG wheel.
Collaborative process
An exclusive capsule collection with graphic prints of AMG components completes the offering. Mschf collaborated closely with the AMG design team in Affalterbach, Germany, to develop and execute all elements.
Furniture highlights
The Seatbelt Shelf is made from milled aluminum shelves and frames shaped like a classic bookcase, stabilized by five double-sided safety belts in AMG red and yellow. Each belt can be individually buckled or unbuckled to maintain even tension. The Seatbelt Rack shares the same construction and belt system as the shelf. Its top section includes four slots for hangers and doubles as an upper shelf. The Seat Back Hanger is made of microfiber Microcut and features the same detailed insert found on the back of AMG performance seats. Its broad shoulders offer strong support for heavy clothing. The Headrest Chair includes three AMG headrests mounted on a steel tube frame, inspired by the geometry of race car roll cages. It supports the thighs and lower back, promoting a surprisingly comfortable upright position. The central headrest, marked with the AMG logo, is height adjustable. The Seatbelt Light contains two parallel LED tube lights aligned with a functioning red AMG seatbelt, tensioned on an anodized aluminum frame. Buckling the belt turns the light on, and unbuckling it causes the belt to retract and switch the light off. The warm glow softly illuminates the room. The Seatbelt Chair stands out with nylon seatbelts wrapped around a tubular steel frame in AMG red and yellow. The belts are clipped at the base and fully anchored at the seatbelt attachment point. The frame tensioners allow for asymmetrical movement in response to the belt’s tension. The Seatbelt Table features a solid milled aluminum tabletop mounted on a tubular steel base and is fitted with a double-sided AMG seatbelt. With a standard dining height, the table combines a minimalist surface with technical-style legs. The Wheel Fan is a floor fan constructed around an Interlagos rim. It includes a finely adjustable speed control and stands on a base made from milled anodized aluminum. The Grille Grill is a long charcoal grill shaped after the AMG grille profile, resting on a geometric base of solid anodized aluminum planks. It includes a removable steel cooking surface, coal grate, and adjustable vents on both the lid and base. The Headlight Couch is an extra-deep lounge sofa with a 1970s character, finished in Microcut microfiber. It features functional AMG headlights with working turn signals. The couch’s geometric panels form a front-facing silhouette with automotive lines.

Fashion extension
The accompanying limited-edition merchandise collection includes t-shirts, sweatshirts, caps, and work trousers with striking prints. High-resolution scans showcase original AMG vehicle components, creating a strong link between the brand and its models. Accessories include an air freshener shaped like an apple tree, a playful reference to the town of Affalterbach, which means “apple tree by the stream” in Old High German.
Exclusive premiere
For the world premiere, Mschf will open its studio in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, to a select group of guests for the first time. Until now, the collective has kept the location private and has not released any photos. Once shrouded in mystery, the studio will now serve as an exclusive venue for a special vernissage. Much of the studio equipment will be part of the installation, and the collection—created in this very space—will be presented in its original environment.
