With the introduction of the Lotus Emeya, the British automaker marks its debut in the realm of all-electric, four-door hyper-GTs. Available in three versions—the base Emeya, the Emeya S, and the top-tier Emeya R—it aims to challenge heavyweights like the Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S. During our test drive with the Emeya S, it became clear why this newcomer is a serious contender.

At first glance, the Lotus Emeya S feels like a sporty sedan, boasting a sleek carbon-fiber finish and responsive steering. But it also reveals itself as a premium grand tourer, ideal for weekend getaways. Cruising in the Emeya S feels like gliding on air, thanks to its electronically controlled air suspension system, which adjusts automatically via sensors that analyze the road surface 1,000 times per second. This creates a ride experience reminiscent of the “magic carpet” sensation associated with Rolls-Royce, but in a much lighter car—an unparalleled experience! Additionally, its intelligent aerodynamics, featuring an active rear spoiler and revolutionary moving front spoiler and rear diffuser, paired with a low center of gravity (“hyperstance,” achieved by placing the battery pack between the wheels and close to the ground), ensure exceptional balance and agility.

Using the right paddle shifter on the steering wheel, we switched to “Sport” mode, instantly transforming the car’s dynamics—including the seats, which hugged us tightly for enhanced support during cornering or rapid acceleration. The Emeya S accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in under 4.2 seconds, maintaining its power seamlessly even at speeds above 165 km/h. This performance is powered by two electric motors (one on each axle), delivering a combined output of 612 hp (450 kW) and 710 Nm of torque. When conserving battery life, the left paddle shifter lets you adjust the level of regenerative braking. Interestingly, the regenerative braking in “Sport” mode is less intense than in “Tour” mode, akin to the Porsche Taycan, where braking primarily relies on the brake pedal for optimal control.

Spacious in Every Way
The Emeya is generous in size, both inside and out. While parking can be challenging due to its width, the spacious interior ensures complete comfort. The 34-liter front trunk (frunk) is just enough for charging cables, but the rear trunk offers a generous 509 liters of space. One drawback we noticed was the audible pumping noise from the air system when the massage function on the seats was activated. However, this minor inconvenience is easily overlooked, especially with the benefits of rear-view cameras replacing traditional mirrors—they stay clean, free of condensation, and frost-free. Moreover, controlling the intensity of the air conditioning and heating is made intuitive with physical switches, a welcome feature compared to navigating through a touchscreen.

One-Way Trip to Zurich
With an impressive electric range of up to 610 kilometers (WLTP), the Emeya S easily manages a single-charge journey from Brussels to Zurich. Charging is equally efficient: utilizing 800V battery technology and a 102 kWh battery pack with a maximum charging speed of 350 kW DC, the Emeya S charges from 10% to 80% in under 18 minutes. A record of 14 minutes was measured using a 400 kW DC charger, making the Lotus Emeya one of the fastest-charging electric vehicles on the market.

Prices for the Lotus Emeya S start at €130,390.
