Firefly is the debut model from NIO’s new lifestyle brand, envisioned for the modern urbanite. Designed in Munich, this fully electric compact car is tailored specifically to the needs of European city life—efficient, agile, and exceptionally well-equipped.
A Vision of Intelligent Urban Driving
Compact in size but rich in features, firefly redefines what an urban electric car can be. It delivers an optimal balance of smart functionality, dynamic design, premium finishes, and energy efficiency. Measuring 4.00 meters in length with a generous 2.62-meter wheelbase and a width of 1.89 meters, it confidently claims its place in the B-segment while offering interior space more typical of larger vehicles.
Distinctive European Design Language
The exterior features the signature firefly “trio lights”—a trio of LED halos—complemented by an oval grille panel and cohesive rear light architecture. From every angle, the design showcases purposeful curves and sculpted volumes, including aerodynamic details like a streamlined roofline and muscular stance enhanced by short overhangs and a long wheelbase. Sustainability is reflected in the lower body elements, which are made from responsibly sourced materials. The firefly’s aesthetics are deeply inspired by its namesake—glowing with character and designed to embody freedom, agility, and vibrant energy.
Luxurious Interior with an Urban Soul
Inside, firefly’s spacious and thoughtfully arranged cabin offers functionality without compromise. The absence of a central tunnel and a foldable armrest allow easy cross-seating mobility—ideal for tight urban parking. A 13.2-inch Retina Central Display and a 6-inch Digital Instrument Cluster, powered by firefly’s proprietary Aster software, elevate the digital experience to premium standards. Standard features include automatic climate control, a 7.1 Dolby Atmos sound system with 14 speakers, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a customizable 256-colour ambient lighting system, and the intelligent in-car assistant, LUMO. A standout feature is the generous 92-litre frunk—one of the largest in its class—with clever drainage and modular storage layers. The main boot offers 404 litres of space, expandable to 1,253 litres via a fully folding rear bench. Additional storage is integrated throughout the cabin, including compartments under the passenger seat, rear bench, and even a removable trash bin.
First Edition: Richly Equipped and Ready to Impress
The launch model, the First Edition, comes with a high-end equipment level that includes navigation, LED lighting front and rear, 18” six-spoke alloy wheels, heated fabric/PU seats, a heated steering wheel, ambient lighting, under-seat storage, and a three-phase 11 kW onboard charger. Future versions will include the Select and Comfort trims. The Comfort trim adds exquisite touches like a panoramic 1 m² sunroof, illuminated firefly logo, microfiber seat upholstery, ventilated and massaging front seats, and a unique in-car fragrance system. Firefly is initially available in lavender, with optional colours including marble, graphite, sand, and—starting in August—lava stone. Interior palettes include Obsidian Dark Grey and Travertine Light Beige.
Performance Meets Practicality
Built on the new TF1 platform, developed exclusively for battery-electric vehicles, the firefly features a 41.2 kWh battery and a 105 kW permanent magnet synchronous motor producing 200 Nm of torque. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes just 8.1 seconds. Drivers can select from Eco, Comfort, and Sport modes to suit their preferences. Despite its modest battery size and weight of only 1,467 kg, the firefly achieves an impressive WLTP range of up to 330 km, with an efficient consumption rate of 14.5 kWh/100 km. Charging is swift and convenient—featuring a standard 11 kW three-phase onboard charger and 100 kW DC fast-charging capability, reaching 80% charge in just 29 minutes. Energy recuperation is enhanced through an automatic regenerative braking system.
Agile by Nature
With a tight turning radius of just 9.4 meters (4.7 meters inner turning diameter), firefly is designed for effortless maneuvering in narrow city streets. Smart parking assistance comes standard for stress-free urban driving. The rear-wheel-drive setup, paired with MacPherson front suspension and a five-link rear configuration, ensures a composed and confident ride in and outside the city.
Safety at a Premium Level
Firefly has been engineered to exceed Euro NCAP 5-star safety standards. Its robust structure, composed of 83.4% ultra-high-strength steel and aluminium alloys, rivals that of higher-tier segments. The vehicle’s torsional rigidity measures 35,700 Nm/degree—unmatched in its class. A comprehensive safety package includes seven airbags, among them a Front Center Airbag and full-length curtain airbags that retain pressure even during rollovers to reduce secondary injuries. A suite of 24 advanced driver assistance systems comes standard, positioning firefly far above segment expectations.
