Summer just got a stylish Italian twist at the heart of Brussels. Hotel Amigo, part of the prestigious Rocco Forte Hotels—founded by Sir Rocco Forte and his sister Olga Polizzi in 1996—has just opened Al Fresco, a brand-new terrace designed by celebrated Belgian architect Piet Blanckaert. This elegant new hotspot is the place to be for a refreshing spritz Amigo-style and a generous serving of la dolce vita.

With over four decades of experience redefining landscape architecture, Piet Blanckaert has crafted a space where refined design and the beauty of nature meet in perfect harmony. Al Fresco blends his signature minimalist elegance with the vibrant aperitivo culture of Milan, creating a sophisticated yet soothing escape right in the city. Picture yourself dining or sipping under a canopy of lush climbing plants—Tuscany jasmine, mandevilla, and camellias—framed by vertical green walls that offer just the right amount of seclusion while still allowing for a playful peek at the bustling city beyond. It’s bella figura meets Brussels chic.

Known for projects ranging from tranquil Japanese gardens to expansive public landscapes, Blanckaert places great importance on creating environments that feel both natural and timeless. “Designing a garden is like staging a play or painting a canvas,” he explains. “By playing with proportions, the garden becomes part of the wider landscape, altering our perception and ultimately our experience of the space.”

Drawing inspiration from Italy’s beloved aperitivo tradition, Al Fresco offers a generous menu of cocktails and small bites à la cicchetti. From the timeless Hugo to the classic Aperol Spritz, every sip is a one-way ticket to a Venetian piazza—minus the jet lag. You can enjoy a special menu and dishes for lunch or the à la care dishes from the Bocconi in the evening. Just follow the signs to Bocconi and you will find your way.
