When words fall short, a simple act of care and warmth can make all the difference. That’s why HNGRY and funeral planner Sereni have joined forces to introduce comfort meals: a heartfelt initiative designed for those grieving the loss of a loved one. For the first time in Flanders and Brussels, people can offer a condolence meal voucher, providing families with nourishing food when they need it most.
On condoleances.be, you can now send a ‘comfort meal’ as a gift. This allows grieving families to receive a freshly prepared HNGRY meal at a time that suits them. The idea for comfort meals stems from a deeply personal experience. Four years ago, Thierry lost his 16-year-old niece. “At first, friends and family would bring food, but over time, that support faded. I arranged for HNGRY meal boxes to be delivered to my sister, and that’s when I realized we could offer this service to others. Especially in cases of unexpected loss, where families with children are left behind, a meal can make a real difference.”
“After a loss, people often lack the energy to grocery shop and cook. A warm, nutritious meal delivered straight to their door can be a small but meaningful source of comfort.” explains Thierry Peeters, founder of HNGRY.

Nourishment and Care During a Difficult Time
“People in mourning have so much on their minds. They feel a lump in their throat, a knot in their stomach—but they still need to eat. A meal offered with love always tastes better,” says psychiatrist and grief expert Uus Knops. “Comfort meals lower the barrier to preparing food and ensure that people feel seen and supported, even on their hardest days.”
During periods of grief, maintaining proper nutrition is more important than ever. Every HNGRY meal is artisanally prepared in their Wommelgem kitchen using fresh ingredients from local suppliers. No added sugars or preservatives are used, and thanks to protective packaging, the meals stay fresh for five to seven days in the refrigerator. This gives grieving families the flexibility to choose when and how they want to enjoy their meal.

Supporting Each Other Through Grief
Bram Coussement, CEO of Sereni, sees this partnership as a natural fit: “Our mission is to support grieving families in every practical and administrative aspect of the funeral process. HNGRY takes one concern off their plate by providing healthy, ready-made meals, so they don’t have to worry about what to eat. Together, we offer the support people need at every stage of their grieving process.”
Gifting a comfort meal is more than just providing food—it’s offering a moment of relief and care. Through Sereni’s funeral centers across Flanders and Brussels, comfort meals can be easily ordered and delivered at the recipient’s preferred time.
A warm meal as a symbol of solidarity. A simple gesture with a profound impact. In difficult times, the support of others helps us carry on.
At first glance, the HNGRY website gave us the impression of a very traditional cuisine. We weren’t sure if we would find exactly what we were looking for, so we ordered a few dishes at random. And what a pleasant surprise! Every single dish was absolutely delicious. On top of that, we never once experienced any issues with our food allergies, which include sensitivities to thickeners, preservatives, and more. These dishes are truly top-notch!
