Ghent: its most iconic rooftop terrace are back!

Restobar Gaston, Ghent’s beloved rooftop destination, is reopening for the summer season on July 1. With a refreshed look, a new menu, and its signature panoramic city views, Gaston promises another unforgettable summer for food lovers and city explorers alike.

Summer is just around the corner, which means: sunshine, a cocktail in hand, and—last but not least—the return of restobar Gaston. Starting July 1, the rooftop terrace will open its doors for the twelfth consecutive year, promising another vibrant summer. Over the years, this hotspot has become a staple in Ghent, renowned for its relaxed atmosphere and panoramic views of the city. This year, restobar Gaston is kicking off the season with a fresh rebranding and a renewed menu.

From pop-up to culinary landmark

What began in 2014 as a summer pop-up atop the Galveston building quickly grew into an annual highlight for Ghent foodies. The rooftop terrace offers a peaceful retreat in the heart of the city and prides itself on its exceptional views and culinary achievements.

Flavors with a twist

Both the website and logo have been updated, and the menu has undergone a thorough makeover. Restobar Gaston remains true to its roots: Belgian and French-inspired cuisine with a creative twist. Good news for fans of shrimp croquettes—they’re back on the menu, as is Gaston’s signature homemade vol-au-vent, considered one of the best in Ghent. The selection is further enriched with new summer dishes, such as grilled broccolini with crispy cauliflower and miso cream, or risotto verde with broad beans and peas. Prefer an aperitif? Enjoy a range of bar bites to share, including artisanal pinsa Romana or falafel with kimchi salad. Those with a sweet tooth can indulge in desserts like white fair trade chocolate ganache with raspberry and rhubarb, or the classic dame blanche. New this year is the quick weekday lunch—two or three courses for €29 or €35, with complimentary espresso.

Renewed but familiar

The rebranding brings a new look and highlights the venue’s versatility. The updated website showcases the various possibilities the location offers, such as private parties and corporate events. Still, the essence of the rooftop bar remains: hospitality, a relaxed vibe, and top quality are at the heart of the concept.

Sustainable and local

Together with Coeur Catering, restobar Gaston has long pursued the highest sustainability ambitions. This year, they are aiming for the Green Key label. The menu features a wide range of plant-based dishes, appealing to a broad audience. All dishes are prepared with seasonal, local (often Ghent-sourced) ingredients, and where possible, organic. The fish on the menu carries the ASC label, and the homemade shrimp croquettes are back—now made with North Sea shrimp peeled in the Netherlands, reducing the need for air transport. To further cut CO2 emissions, all wines are sourced exclusively from Europe and complemented by select Flemish wines and Ghent beers. Water is sustainably supplied by impact enterprise Robinetto, and the coffee is roasted in Ghent and certified by the Rainforest Alliance.

A highlight of Ghent

Restobar Gaston’s rooftop terrace offers nearly 180° panoramic views over Ghent. No matter your preference, you’ll always find a spot in the sun or shade. If the Belgian summer brings rain, guests can retreat indoors to the historic refectory of the former factory. The rooftop is the ultimate hotspot for summer—ideal for a relaxing aperitif, an extensive lunch, or open-air dinner. And don’t forget: you can still play a game of pétanque with a view of the Ghent skyline. Restobar Gaston is open daily from July 1 to August 31, from 12:00 to 23:00.
