F.P.Journe, the master of modern haute horlogerie, unveils two powerful statements of watchmaking purity: the futuristic Chronomètre Furtif, and the 20th Anniversary Collection Boutique editions of the revered Chronomètre Souverain.
Chronomètre Furtif
Originally introduced as the unique Chronomètre Furtif Bleu for Only Watch 2024, this timepiece was the first to feature a case and bracelet made of Tantalum. Now part of the lineSport collection, the Chronomètre Furtif returns with a 42 mm case and bracelet crafted from Tungsten Carbide, accented with Tantalum. Known for its use in high-tech applications, Tungsten Carbide is not only biocompatible and chemically stable but also extremely shock-resistant and nearly indestructible.
The anthracite grey Grand Feu enamel dial—set on white gold—took over a year of development. Its matte numerals and minute track become visible only when the dial catches the light at certain angles, offering a hidden detail appreciated by the wearer alone.
Inside, the manually wound 18K rose gold Calibre 1522 displays hours, minutes, and a central seconds hand mounted directly onto the axis of a dedicated wheel. This nearly linear gear train is a first for F.P.Journe. On the reverse, you’ll find a 56-hour power reserve indicator and moon phase display, perfectly symmetrical.
Crafted with the expertise of Les Boîtiers de Genève and Les Cadraniers de Genève—both owned by F.P.Journe—the Chronomètre Furtif returns to the essence of time: made for your eyes only.
20 Years of Chronomètre Souverain
Following the Tourbillon Souverain, Chronomètre à Résonance, and Octa, it is now the Chronomètre Souverain’s moment to shine.
First released in 2005, the Chronomètre Souverain has become one of F.P.Journe’s most coveted models. Its seemingly simple design—three hands and a power reserve—draws inspiration from 18th-century marine chronometers, which were crucial in determining longitude at sea during the age of naval exploration.
Powered by the ultra-slim Calibre 1304 in 18K rose gold, this manually wound movement is just 4 mm thick. Two barrels mounted in parallel deliver consistent force to the escapement for over 56 hours of chronometric precision.
One historical nod is the unusual positioning of the power reserve indicator at 3 o’clock—a placement rarely seen due to interference with the crown’s setting mechanism. This reverse scale, inspired by marine chronometers, begins at “0” when fully wound and progresses as power unwinds, a thoughtful twist on a traditional display.
To keep the case as slim as possible, François-Paul Journe reengineered the power reserve mechanism, using patented ceramic ball bearings to reduce thickness to just 0.5 mm.
To mark its 20th anniversary, F.P.Journe introduces the Chronomètre Souverain Collection Boutique, featuring two exclusive blue guilloché silver dials, available only at F.P.Journe Boutiques and Espaces.
