Audemars Piguet and Swatch are rewriting the rules of watchmaking with the launch of Royal Pop, a bold new collaboration that merges haute horlogerie heritage with playful, contemporary design.
Drawing on the disruptive spirit of pop art, the collection transforms one of Switzerland’s most iconic timepieces, the Royal Oak, into something entirely unexpected. The result is a series of eight Swiss-made Bioceramic models in a distinctive pocket-watch format, inspired as much by Swatch’s irreverent 1980s POP designs as by Audemars Piguet’s 1972 classic.

More than a simple tribute, Royal Pop challenges how a watch is worn. No longer confined to the wrist, each piece comes with a refined calfskin cord, allowing it to be styled as a necklace, carried in a pocket, attached to a bag, or even displayed as a desk clock using a detachable stand. It’s a fluid, expressive approach to timekeeping that feels both luxurious and deliberately unconventional.

Inside, Swatch’s updated Sistem 51 movement powers the collection, now hand-wound, enhanced by 15 patents, and boasting over 90 hours of power reserve. Fully assembled by automation, the movement also features a Nivachron balance spring, developed in collaboration with Audemars Piguet, offering heightened resistance to magnetic fields. Visible through a transparent caseback, the movement becomes part of the aesthetic experience.

The Royal Pop collection is available in two interpretations: a minimalist Lépine-style pocket watch with a crown at 12 o’clock and two-hand display, offered in six variations; and a Savonnette-style version with the crown at 3 o’clock and a small seconds subdial, available in two editions.

Design cues from the Royal Oak remain unmistakable. Each model features the signature Petite Tapisserie dial, an octagonal bezel with eight hexagonal screws, and refined finishing such as vertical satin brushing. The number eight, central to the Royal Oak’s identity, echoes throughout the collection, from its eight models to the geometry of its case construction, which combines octagonal, circular, and tonneau forms. Crafted in Swatch’s proprietary Bioceramic, composed of ceramic powder and bio-sourced material derived from castor oil, the watches balance durability with a smooth, tactile finish. Super-LumiNova accents ensure legibility, while dual sapphire crystals with anti-reflective coating enhance clarity and scratch resistance.
Audemars Piguet × Swatch Royal Pop will be available from May 16, 2026, exclusively through selected Swatch boutiques. As with previous Swatch collaborations, availability will be limited to one watch per person, per day, per store.
